ViroClinics Biosciences has a number of research & development programs aimed at identifying new targets for the development of vaccines, antivirals and diagnostics.
Virus discovery Program
The virus discovery program is dedicated to the discovery of as yet unidentified human and animal viruses that have significant impact on human and animal health, and is funded in part with an EU Framework Project 7 grant (EMPERIE). The human pathogenic coronavirus, Human Corona virus NL63 (HCoV/NL63) was discovered through this program.
Influenza and RSV Correlates of Protection Program
This program, funded by the Top Institute Pharma, aims to identify correlates of protection for Influenza and Respiratory Syncytial viruses to enable the development of diagnostic tools and models to measure these correlates. The program aims to investigate both serological and cell-mediated responses to infection by and vaccines to these viruses. The program has already yielded new tools to measure serological and cell-mediated responses in humans and animals, and new models for infection by the pandemic “Mexican” H1N1 Influenza Virus.
Influenza reference strain program
The influenza reference strain program aims to develop influenza vaccine reference strains that have better growth properties in cell-based manufacturing systems, and is funded by an IS subsidy from Senter-Novem.
