Social: electronic waste management

Viroclinics-DDL is actively making efforts when it comes to environmental management, and more specifically, waste management. One example our activities is to make good use of our electronic waste.

Disposal of electronic waste is a need that has grown immensely in the past decades, for obvious reasons. Since October 2019 Viroclinics-DDL’s ICT department is working together with Recyclebox, an organization dedicated to picking-up electronic waste and either giving it a second life (upcycling or downcycling) or having it recycled into usable components or raw materials. In the process, value is released, and this value is then used for socially responsible purposes, usually donation to a charity.

One of the main partnered charities is the KiKa Foundation, a foundation dedicated to combating childhood cancer by directing their received donations into funding of scientific research into childhood cancer related fields (treating/healing childhood cancer, reduction of side effects during and after treatment, the biology and development of childhood cancer, quality of life of patients and psychosocial aspects, etc.), financially supporting the research department of the Prinses Maxima Center (a medical center dedicated to pediatric oncology), and, development of education and information about childhood cancer. Since the founding of Recyclebox in 2016, they have donated a total of 125 million euros to funding.

Viroclinics-DDL is proud to direct the surplus of the value obtained from its electronic waste towards the KiKa foundation. Since Recyclebox’s first pick-up in November 2019 there have been 2 more pick-ups over the last 2,5 years at Viroclinics-DDL.
